The Sports Complex

The Sports Complex is a world-class facility that provides a regional hub for sporting activities. It includes a Championship Soccer Stadium with seating for 2,500 spectators, along with seven baseball fields and five softball fields, and flex fields that can be used for soccer or other athletic activities.

A collaboration between the City of Irvine and developer FivePoint has created an extraordinary amenity within and around Orange County Great Park. The Sports Complex encompasses 194 acres, which is larger than Disneyland and Disney California Adventure combined.

There are many things to do and see in Irvine, from visiting the San Joaquin March and Wildlife Sanctuary to hiking the trails at Crystal Cove State Park or Fremont Canyon Nature Preserve. The city also has a number of shopping and dining options, including the outdoor Spectrum Center. Here is another spot to visit.

The Botanical Garden

For visitors, the Great Park’s Botanical Garden will provide a unique opportunity to discover native plants and awe-inspiring natural features, including an expansive arboretum. Located in the Cultural Terrace, the garden is intended to be an educational space for visitors of all ages to explore and learn about the environment.

Despite a tumultuous history, Orange County Great Park is finally on track to be finished as an integrated public recreation destination. By 2029, the city of Irvine hopes to complete a veterans memorial garden, 15 acres of botanical gardens, a 14,000-seat amphitheater, and a USA Water Polo aquatics facility among other attractions.

The Veteran’s Memorial

The Great Park, which will span 1,347 acres and be larger than San Diego’s Balboa Park, is a vision for public space that sets new standards for sustainability and ecological responsibility. It features a two-mile canyon, wildlife habitat preserves, rivers and lake systems, museums, botanical gardens, and a memorial park.

The original plan, developed under Mayor Larry Agran and approved by the City Council, was to create an eco-wonder that rivaled Central Park in Manhattan. It would feature a constructed two-mile canyon, a daylighted existing stream, a lake, a cultural terrace, a great lawn, an aviation museum, a conservatory/botanical garden, and a sports complex. Among other things, it would celebrate the region’s agricultural past and the men and women who served there.

The Library

The Library at Great Park Irvine CA is a place where you can explore the world of books and literature. It’s also a space that hosts classes and programs on sustainability, agriculture, and farming.

The city has been working on a Framework Plan for the Great Park, which includes adding new amenities and infrastructure. This plan was approved by the Irvine City Council in late July 2022.

The Framework Plan

Great Park Irvine CA is one of the most popular new communities in Orange County offering a fresh mix of parks, homes, and experiences. It is truly a connected, inspired community.

The framework plan is the foundation of the next phase of Great Park development. It includes priority projects from the City Council, including a world-class botanic garden and veterans’ memorial park.

The Great Park will also expand to include a canyon, daylighted streams and ponds, a lake, a cultural terrace, and more. Taking inspiration from San Diego’s Balboa Park, the design will incorporate natural habitats such as vernal pools and fern grottoes. Click here for the next blog post.
